The 13th World Festival of Animated Films - ANIMAFEST '98 was held in Zagreb, Croatia between 17 and 21 June, 1998. Continuing its tradition started in 1994 and followed up in 1996, of participating in ANIMAFEST events, CARNet once again took part in the Festival.

As in the past years, CARNet has again provided the space for the official Web pages of the Festival on one of its servers. A new element was the transmission of some of the Festival's events live to the Internet public. Also, two Webomats were set up in the foyer of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, the venue of the event, allowing visitors during intermissions to view the Festival news Web pages as well as other Internet content

CARNet also organized a competition, allowing visitors to the ANIMAFEST Web site to vote for the film with the most interesting Web presentation. This year's Internet Favourite Award went to the film Geri's Game by author Jan Pinkava, produced by Pixar Animation Studios. (A brief excerpt from the film may be seen at http://www.pixar.com/shorts/geri/geri.html.)
